Shelby Popham
Shelby Popham has a doctorate in Comparative Literature (English, French, Italian). She received her M.A. and Ph.D. from UCLA, and studied at the Université de Grenoble, France for a year. She has taught in Writing Programs since 1988. Her interests include teaching writing as a process, Native American writing, and teacher education. She has been the writing coach for teachers in the Invitational Program of the UCLA site of the National Writing Project since 1988. Additionally, since 2002, she has volunteered in elementary and middle schools, conducting after-school programs to help young students with writing. She received UCLA’s Luckman Distinguished Lecturer Award (1994) and UCLA’s Distinguished Teaching Assistant Award (1986).
