Colleen Jaurretche earned her BA and PhD in English at UCLA.  Her teaching career began in the Department of English, where she taught Chaucer, Milton, Shakespeare, and 19th and 20th century literature, including James Joyce.  From UCLA she taught for several years at Claremont McKenna College and Claremont Graduate University.  Her books include a study of James Joyce and the medieval mystical tradition, as well as an edited collection on Samuel Beckett and philosophy of mind.  Presently she is researching and writing a book on word and image in Finnegans Wake.  She is co-founder of Libros Schmibros Lending Library in the storied Los Angeles neighborhood of Boyle Heights.  In Writing Programs she teaches a variety of courses, including The City and the Library, where students work to research and annotate rare and archival materials on Los Angeles.
